"Ezekiel's
Vision"
This is a commissioned work: I was asked to give my
interpretation of Ezekiel's vision as narrated in the Old Testament of
the Bible. After carefully reading several versions I came up with this
painting. The Egyptian perspective of portraying an object from several
angles simultaneously was very useful in my representation of the winged
"beings" or angels, each of whom had four faces pointing in
each direction of the compass - that of a lion, ox, eagle and a human!
The hieroglyphs proclaim "Behold the one great God; listen to his
words, let all the people give praise". On the throne is the sign
for "Millions of Years" or Ancient of Days. Ezekiel kneels in
praise beside the river. Over him arches the starry firmament. Note also
the fire symbol. |
